Manual therapy is an advanced level of physical therapy training that focuses on hands-on care utilizing an evidence based clinical decision making model. It involves highly specific hands-on techniques to diagnose and treat soft tissue and joint structures. This model of treatment is a dynamic structural assessment of the musculoskeletal system. The dynamic assessment provides information which is not attained by a static radiograph/x-ray, MRI, or stationary test. The evaluation process specifically targets the function of related components of the body's framework (skeletal, joint, mysofascial, vascular, lymphatic and neural elements). This alteration of the musculoskeletal system's function contributes significantly to the pain syndrome. Expected outcomes include resolving or managing pain, increasing range of motion, reducing soft tissue tension, eliminating joint inflammation, increasing joint mobility, improving joint stability, restoring normal movement patterns, improving general fitness, and returning to work or a sport activity. Treatment at our clinic focuses on the following: SOFT TISSUE MOBILIZATION This technique improves mobility to the muscles, tendons, and fascia as it relates to pain, posture, and joint dysfunction. It may include massage, myofascial release, strain-counterstrain, and contract-relax techniques. JOINT MOBILIZATION This technique is a continuum of skilled passive movements to the joints and/or related soft tissue that are applied at varying speeds and amplitudes to assess and treat altered mechanics of the joint system. EXERCISE TRAINING This program involves a series of highly specific “dosed” exercises tailored to the your injury and/or movement dysfunction. The exercise program is designed to restore normal function and promote tissue healing. Our advanced training of exercise progression and use of specialized gym equipment allows us to provide effective interventions to treat all types of injuries. PATIENT EDUCATION We will provide you with the knowledge on how to best manage your injury during your treatment sessions and after you have completed treatment with us. We will provide you the resources for preventative management, self-care strategies, signs and symptoms to watch for, prescribed home and/or gym exercises, ergonomics, nutrition, and appropriate advice to your fitness trainer/specialist on how to reach your goals.
